This book was co-authored by me and published in 2019. It was written in Portuguese and is called Unconditional Basic Income, A Defense of Freedom. The book won the best essay first prize from the Portuguese Philosophy Society.

In this book, we present the idea of basic income to a general audience, starting with the history of the project, from Thomas Moore to the current day. We argue that basic income is an important step to achieving real freedom, beyond positive and negative liberty.

Basic income is presented in this book, not as an alternative to a social state where services like education and healthcare are guaranteed, but as an extra component of the social state.

The book also addresses common objections to basic income, the future of work and automation, and different ways to finance a Basic Income.

Finally, the book addresses several pilot programs, both past programs and current programs in countries like the United States, Canada, India, Namibia, and Kenya, as well as the existing dividends in Alaska and Macau.
